Eastern Cape labour market highlights: First quarter 2022
•The Eastern Cape unemployment rate decreased to 44.0%.
•The number of employed people increased by 2.6% to 1.3 million.
•Employment declined by 14.2% in the agricultural sector.
•The Eastern Cape youth unemployment rate (aged 15 - 34 years) reached 60.2%.
•Within the unemployed people in the province, 49.3% have secondary not completed.
•The female unemployment rate was lower (42.7%) than that of males, which was recorded at 45.1% in 2022Q1.
